About Me
I am Department Manager of the research department Neuro-Mechanistic Modeling (NMM) at DFKI in Saarbrücken. NMM combines mechanistic models with AI methods so that systems are both powerful and interpretable. In my role, I coordinate the department’s strategic initiatives, support its research projects and help build partnerships between AI research, industry and policy. I link the department’s leadership, its research groups, DFKI administration and external partners.
A central part of my work is CERTAIN, the Center for European Research in Trusted AI. This DFKI initiative brings together experts and organizations from science, industry, policy and civil society to advance trustworthy AI. CERTAIN develops technologies and frameworks that strengthen the reliability, transparency and verifiable guarantees of AI systems, and it is building a strong European ecosystem around Trusted AI. I am responsible for project management and science communication in CERTAIN. I connect people across disciplines and sectors through formats such as the annual Trusted AI Day at DFKI and our video series “Voices of Trusted AI.”
Beyond research management, I care a lot about science communication and community building. My aim is to make complex AI research understandable, connect stakeholders and spark new collaborations between science, industry and society.
My path to DFKI began in sports science. I earned a doctorate in natural sciences (Dr. rer. nat.) at TU Kaiserslautern and then spent several years in academic research. That experience still shapes how I see research processes and interdisciplinary collaboration.
